Transportation in Thailand

Your complete guide to getting around Thailand - from airport transfers to local transport

Getting Around Thailand

Thailand's transport menu runs from ultra-cheap shared songthaews to metered taxis and the Airport Rail Link. In Bangkok, the Airport Rail Link is the fastest way from Suvarnabhumi to the city center, frequent service, and a fraction of a taxi fare. From Don Mueang, the Airport Bus to Mo Chit BTS is the only listed public option. Anything else will be a taxi or ride-hail. First-timer rule: always check the current rate in the booking widget before you commit. Touts inside the terminal quoting "flat rate" are almost always a splurge compared with the official airport taxi rank, where the meter is mandatory. Grab works too. But increase pricing near baggage claim can make it the priciest choice.

Quick Transportation Tips

Grab app first. Download it before landing. Cashless taxi and motorbike taxi booking across Thailand. One tap, no baht needed.

Rabbit card. Buy it at any BTS station. Tap and ride on Bangkok's Skytrain, BRT buses, and select boats. Skip the ticket queues.

Airport Rail Link from Suvarnabhumi ends at Phaya Thai station. Transfer directly to BTS Skytrain. One ticket covers both legs.

Pink and orange motorbike taxis wait at most BTS/MRT exits. Fixed stands for short hops when traffic is heavy. Fast, cheap, loud.
